Your guide

Meet Professor Byte

Professor Byte, a scientist in a lab coat holding a handheld game console

Hello there! Welcome to the world of retro games! My name is Byte, but everyone calls me the Professor.

This world is full of games: in bargain bins, on dusty shelves, at swap meets. I've spent my life cataloguing every last one. Now it's your turn. Here, take this: your very own ByteDex!

Your ByteDex is the index of every game ever released, from the Channel F to today's consoles. Scan a game and it's registered. Own it and it's caught. Its Japanese and PAL versions are forms to collect too. Can you collect 'em all?

How it works

From bargain bin to collection in seconds

  1. 01

    Scan it

Snap the label, the box or the disc. RetroSeeker reads the title, the printed codes and the region marks, even Japanese titles.

  2. 02

    Price it

See what it actually sells for, loose, complete or sealed, from recent sold listings. Spot a price tag? The deal meter tells you if it's a steal.

  3. 03

    Register it

Every game you scan is registered in your ByteDex. Mark the ones you own as caught, wishlist the ones you're still hunting, and watch it fill up.

Collecting, turned into a game

A real-world hunt for retro games

You know those phone games where you walk around your town catching creatures? RetroSeeker is that, for real games. The relics are hiding in thrift stores, flea markets and swap meets near you. Get out there, catch them in the wild, and level up as a seeker.

Explore the map

Game stores, pawn shops, flea markets, swap meets and expos near you. Check in to collect passport stamps, become a place's Regular, and be the first seeker ever to check in somewhere to plant your Pioneer flag.

Catch 'em in the wild

Scan a game on the shelf and it's registered in your ByteDex. Buy it and it's caught. Every entry has a rarity, from Common to Legendary, and regional versions count as new forms to collect.

Quests that get you out there

Daily and weekly quest boards, shared by every seeker in your region, plus live events for seasons and game expos with their own badges. Scan games back to back to build combos worth up to five times the XP.

Level up your seeker

Earn XP for every scan, catch and check-in. Climb from Rookie Seeker to ByteDex Legend, earn badges, and unlock gear for your avatar as your ByteDex fills up.

Hunt together

Share sightings so nearby seekers can grab a deal, get pinged when someone spots a game on your wishlist, and follow your friends' best finds in your feed.

What's inside

Everything a game hunter needs

Knows every region

North American, PAL and Japanese releases, editions like Player's Choice and Greatest Hits, all told apart and priced separately.

Real prices, not guesses

Values come from recent sold listings for each condition, with 30-day and yearly trends and your whole collection's worth at a glance.

A ByteDex to complete

Every official release from the Channel F to today's consoles. Catch regional forms, earn medals for complete copies, and unlock gear for your seeker.

Wishlist alerts

When another seeker spots a game on your wishlist nearby, you hear about it, with the asking price if they shared one.

Trade with seekers

List your doubles, offer games or cash for someone else's, and chat to arrange a meetup. Add friends by username or invite link.

Your games in 3D

Spin the real cartridge or disc, zoom into the label, and flip between the model and the box art for every game you've registered.
